Gentle Yoga Therapy workshop for the lower back (online group class) with Shanna Hughes

One-hour Online Group Yoga class with Shanna Hughes – a recording will be provided.

Gentle Healing Yoga is beneficial to those that lack the overall flexibilitywho needs a practice that encourages modified poses without any intense strain. This class is great for people with movement limitations, chronic conditions, back pain, arthritis or seeking an alternative stress-reduction management.

Yoga therapy for the back is a gentle practice that is ideal for maintaining back strength and flexibility. It’s also one of the more effective tools for helping reduce low back pain, the most common source of pain and disability among most adults over the age of 50.

The postures teach you to stretch and strengthen your muscles, which helps reduce muscular tension, build flexibility and strength, and improve balance and bone strength. The benefits of yoga go beyond muscles. The slow movements and the continuous focus on proper breathing can improve the emotional aspect of back pain by helping to lower stress and alleviate anxiety and depression.

This 90 minute practice will include a 15 minute sharing of important things to keep in mind when healing the back, as well as questions and answers with the participants via zoom. Then you will be taken through a gentle practice guided by Shanna who will give you modifications to use to support your back. At the end of the practice, you will be taken through a basic breathing practice to help regulate your breath and strengthen the front of your back. The class will end with questions and answers.

***If you cannot join this Livestream class then everyone will receive the recording.

***If you are dealing with chronic pain or acute pain and have a doctor guiding you currently, please get their permission to join.

Shanna Hughes

After returning to America, Shanna continued her studies of yoga, concentrating on yoga therapy. She completed a three-year certification as a Yoga Therapist from Loyola Marymount University. Through this innovative course, she learned how to integrate the practices of yoga with the various approaches to healing found in modern medicine including techniques in physical therapy and stress reduction through bio-feedback.

Yoga can be taught sitting on a chair, lying in a bed or on the floor. Depending on the clients’ capacity and needs, Shanna creates a class in which the client learns how to stretch and strengthen their body musculature using classic or modified yoga positions. Many of her clients have either never practiced yoga before or have had negative experiences because of being pushed too hard. With this in mind, Shanna is able to create a safe, gentle practice that is user-friendly and can be practiced at home daily. Another very important element of her teaching is her understanding of breathing patterns and ways to better these. Proper breathing can invigorate a person with vitality and health. In her sessions, the client learns the practice that best suits their breathing patterns and needs. Shanna has traveled the world teaching gentle physical postures and breathing techniques that have proven to be both calming and healing and in many cases reversing what seems like irreversible physical and emotional challenges.
